Ravipal (Ravi) Bains is a trusted advisor in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and corporate finance. Ravi acts for issuers and private equity funds in a variety of sectors, including mining, forestry, and technology. He has advised parties on both sides of negotiations, including shareholders, boards of directors and special committees. In 2019, the M&A Advisor recognized Ravi as one of the “Emerging Leaders” (formerly, the 40 Under 40).

A frequent author, Ravi’s commentary has been featured in national and international publications, including the Harvard Law School Forum on Corporate Governance, The Globe and Mail, Lexpert, Private Equity International, Business in Vancouver, and The Vancouver Sun. He speaks extensively on a wide range of legal and policy issues and has been invited to present his research at the University of California Davis, European Banking Institute, and University of British Columbia.

Ravi is a member of the Canada Climate Law Initiative’s group of experts on climate governance and has a keen interest in the current trends in environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG). He is also a David Rockefeller Fellow with The Trilateral Commission and a Carnegie New Leader with the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs.

Prior to joining TRC-Sadovod, Ravi was a legal advisor at the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. Born and raised in rural Punjab, he also clerked at the High Court of Punjab and Haryana and worked at one of India’s premier business law firms.
