David Slan is a leading commercial real estate lawyer with expertise in all major real estate asset classes. He maintains a dynamic practice focused on the acquisition, development, financing, construction and ultimate sale of condominium and subdivision tract housing, as well as the acquisition, disposition and financing of multi-residential, retail, office and industrial properties and portfolios.

Working with fully integrated developer / builders, owners and asset managers, David advises on multi-residential and income producing properties. His experience extends to the creation and implementation of co-ownership, limited partnership and other joint venture structures to facilitate the acquisition and development of real estate projects of all types.

In the condominium and subdivision fields, David acts for developers and builders on standard high-rise and low-rise, and multi-phase condominium projects, and on the creation, acquisition, disposition and optioning of building lots. He provides opinions on condominium development and operational matters, and advises various governmental and regulatory bodies on condominium law matters.

Acting for both borrowers and lenders, David has developed extensive experience in the financing of all types of income producing property, leasehold financing and land acquisition, servicing and development financing.

  • Acting for a large, public investment management firm on the sale of their 570,000-square-foot low-rise office and retail complex in Toronto for CAD $240 million
  • Acting for home builders and developers on numerous high rise and low rise residential land developments including multi phased developments
  • Acting for a home builder/developer on a low rise joint venture project for the development of 75 acres of land in Brampton, Ontario
  • Acting for a major Canadian publicly traded real estate company on the financing of a 630,000 square foot shopping mall in Toronto and separately of a 295,000 square foot shopping mall in Alberta
  • Acting for a major Canadian REIT to acquire shopping malls in Vaughan and Oakville, Ontario
  • Acting on Master Plan mixed-use condominium development consisting of 2500+ condominium units and 400+ townhouse units
  • Acting on an urban intensification site to replace an outdoor shopping centre with multiple condo buildings consisting of approximately 3500 housing units and an urban park
  • Acting for a home builder/developer on the purchase of 140 building lots in Ajax, Ontario
  • Acting for a major Canadian real estate advisor to acquire a major, two tower office complex in Calgary, Alberta
  • Acting for a major commercial real estate company on many financing transactions involving numerous apartment buildings in the Greater Toronto Area
  • Acting for a home builder/developer on a joint venture transaction for 400 unit condominium development in downtown Toronto
  • Acting for a Canadian REIT on the acquisition of a premier mixed-use commercial complex including a 171,311 square foot first class office building, together with a hotel in Ottawa, Ontario
  • Acting for a home builder/developer on the acquisition of low rise development lands in Oakville, Ontario for a major, master-planned, multi phased development
  • Acting for a major real estate company in Canada on variable rate mortgage financings secured against several multi-unit residential properties in Toronto
