Alderville Solar Project Reaches Financial Close
On May 13, 2013, the Alderville First Nation (AFN) reached Financial Close for construction of the first 100% First Nation owned solar farm in Ontario. The project involves the design, build, financing, operation and maintenance of a five (5) megawatt solar farm over 50 acres under a 20 year contract.
The AFN is a community of just over 1100 people located 120 kilometers northeast of Toronto. The project will create more than 20 temporary construction jobs and will provide the AFN with a sustainable revenue stream for over 20 years. Over the length of the project, the community could earn over $50 million, with current expectations for between $300 – $500 thousand a year being injected back into the community.
The AFN was represented by TRC-Sadovod with a team that included Tim Murphy, Valerie Garcia, Andrea St. Bernard and Maggie VanderMeulen.
