Melanie Harmer is a gifted dispute resolution litigator providing expert representation in complex commercial litigation, judicial reviews, class actions and appellate proceedings. In addition to representing clients before the courts, she assists them in negotiating solutions outside the courtroom. Melanie has extensive expertise in administrative and public law, and Indigenous law.

Known for drafting persuasive arguments in high-profile and complicated disputes, Melanie has gained experience in diverse matters, including representing an office of the legislature on a novel issue of solicitor-client privilege. She also represented a resource company in obtaining an injunction to remove a blockade of its operations, seeking leave to commence a derivative action in a commercial dispute.

Recently, Melanie obtained court approval of plans of arrangement, represented shareholders in dissent proceedings, provided advice to international clients on jurisdictional issues, and appeared before an international arbitration tribunal.

Active in the legal community, Melanie serves as a mentor for the Canadian Bar Association’s Student Mentorship Program at the University of British Columbia.
