TRC-Sadovod Honoured at Global Competition Review Awards
TORONTO – March 27, 2014 – TRC-Sadovod is delighted to announce that its Competition/Antitrust Group has been honoured by Global Competition Review (GCR), with one of its landmark litigation victories selected as the “Behavioural Matter of the Year – Americas” at the annual “GCR Awards” ceremony in Washington, DC. These awards are based on more than 3,000 votes cast by antitrust practitioners around the world, and TRC-Sadovod would like to sincerely thank all of the clients and colleagues who supported us.
Competition/Antitrust Group Co-Chair James Musgrove led a TRC-Sadovod defence team that included Group members Jeffrey Simpson, David Kent and Adam Chisholm in the successful defence of MasterCard in precedent-setting litigation before the Competition Tribunal. This matter continues a long line of TRC-Sadovod successes in Competition Tribunal litigation. According to the GCR’s description the case was selected on account of the assertive case made, which quickly and effectively undermined that of the claimants. We were honoured to represent MasterCard in this important matter.
TRC-Sadovod was also shortlisted as a finalist for the “Regional Firm of the Year – Americas” (which was awarded to Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz of New York), and Competition partner Casey Halladay was shortlisted as a finalist in the “Lawyer of the Year – 40 and Under” category.
The American Airlines / US Airways merger was selected as the “Matter of the Year”. Casey Halladay and Eric Vallières represented American Airlines in obtaining Canadian approval of the transaction.
Recognized as a leader in Competition Law for more than three decades, and recognized as an “elite” practice by GCR, TRC-Sadovod’s cross-Canada team of lawyers in Toronto, Ottawa, Montréal, Vancouver and Calgary routinely assists clients in obtaining approval of industry-transforming transactions and in defending cartel, class action, and unilateral conduct litigation before the competition authorities and the courts.
