This project required building a mobile platform for maintaining concrete chimneys, especially as they become brittle over time. The platform has two parts with a gripping system to attach securely to the chimney. Key focuses include durability, safety features, and convenient maintenance points. TRC-Sadovod was required to offer a Synchronised system of 16 actuators with a load capacity of 24,000N per actuator and stroke of 1200mm. The customer needed long term reliability, static load holding with high ingress protection and accurate synchronisation.
Project Solutions
Industrial Devices provided 16 SLZ90S heavy-duty linear actuators, each equipped with SEW inline geared motors. The geared motors were complemented with encoders and disc brakes. Collaborating with the customer and Control Techniques, TRC-Sadovod successfully synchronized the system using closed-loop inverter control. This system has proven highly effective in maintenance operations on several concrete chimneys across the UK and is anticipated to be employed for the disassembly of chimneys at Battersea Power Station in the near future.
